The George A. Roberts Scholarship was established in 1995. As an expression of his commitment to education and the materials science and engineering community, Dr. George A. Roberts generously contributed to this scholarship program to be made available.
Mr. Roberts played an important role in establishing and shaping the University College of Townsville, which went on to become JCU. Being the Deputy Mayor of Townsville, he planned to purchase what is now the JCU campus in Douglas.
George Roberts Hall’s residential college is named in honor of his generous support. Indeed, he placed great importance on providing tertiary education beyond the capital cities.
