The University of Aberdeen is delighted to offer the Aberdeen Global Scholarship for Africans starting in September 2024, or January 2025.
The scholarship provides funding towards the student’s tuition fee and is available to eligible self-funded postgraduate taught (PGT) students who are classed as international fee status and domiciled in any of the countries on the African continent.

About the Aberdeen Global Scholarship for Africans
The University of Aberdeen offers the Aberdeen Global Scholarship to international students starting in September 2024, or January 2025. The scholarship is an £8,000 tuition fee discount open to eligible self-funded taught Masters students who are classed as international fee status and domiciled in one of the countries listed below.

These scholarships are open to students registering for a full-time on-campus program, who don’t receive an externally funded scholarship from elsewhere, or any other University of Aberdeen scholarships (excluding awards made by the University of Aberdeen Development Trust).
The scholarship is being introduced on a transitional basis, to help mitigate the immediate effects of Brexit on our EU student community, and will be available to those who commence their studies in the academic year 2023/24.
It is not available to students studying MBA programs where Home and International students are eligible for the same tuition fee rate. The scholarship is not also available to students studying for PGDE degrees.
Aberdeen Global Scholarship 2024 | Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Aberdeen Global Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must be classed as international fee status and domiciled in any of the countries on the African continent.
- Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic performance.
- Applicants must be offered an unconditional admission to study a full-time postgraduate taught course at the University of Aberdeen.
- Applicants must have obtained a relevant bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution of higher learning.
Additional Eligibilities
- Applicants must have completed a full degree program (those who have studied a certificate or Diploma are not eligible) or studied for a period as an International Exchange, Study Abroad, or Erasmus student at the University of Aberdeen and be applying for graduate study.
The discount applies only to any aspect of fees that may need to be self-funded and not covered by additional funding.
- Please note that it is not possible to hold the Alumni Discount alongside another tuition fee discount or award provided by the University of Aberdeen. In the situation that you are eligible for an Alumni Discount and have also been awarded another tuition fee discount or award from the University, you will receive whichever award is of greater value.
The following programs are not eligible for the Alumni Discount scheme:
- Professional Graduate Diploma in Education
- Law – SQE1 Preparation Course
- Diploma in Professional Legal Practice
- MBA – International Business Management graduate pathway
- Registered Postgraduate Study
- All other taught graduate programs, including Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma, Accelerated LLB, and Short Courses, are eligible.
- MBChB Students who are undertaking a Taught Postgraduate Masters program as part of their Intercalating year are also eligible for the discount.
Application Procedures for the Aberdeen Global Scholarship for Africans
How-to-Apply: Interested applicants for the Aberdeen Global Scholarship for Africans are to first apply for admission and be offered unconditional admission into an eligible postgraduate course in the university.
- To apply for one of our study programs, you will need to complete the easy online application form. The form will ask you some basic questions including your details, preferred program, and your education history, to help us assess your academic level.
- You will be awarded your scholarships as a tuition fee discount and the value of the scholarship will be included in your CAS letter.
- Please check that you have firmly accepted an unconditional offer and that you have sent us confirmation of funding.
- You do not have to complete the form all at once; you can save it at any point and return it later. You can choose to upload your supporting documents such as;
- Transcripts
- English Certificates and
- Passport copy etc.
- You will need to submit these documents with your online application or submit your form without them and provide these later via email or post. A Student Enrolment Advisor will advise on the documents they need to process your application.
Please note, that you do not need to apply for this scholarship, all eligible students will receive the scholarship as a fee discount.
There is no deadline as no application is required for this scholarship.
