Ertegun Scholarships at Oxford | Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Ertegun Scholarships 2024, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Applicants must ensure that they meet the criteria for entry into their course of study, including English language requirements.
  2. Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic and research abilities.
  3. Applicants must have been admitted to study an eligible course at the University of Oxford for the 2025/2026 academic session.
  4. Applicants must have obtained relevant academic certificates required for admission into the graduate programs of the University of Oxford.
  5. Current graduate students are not eligible to apply for funding for a second or third year of their course.
  6. The scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other awards. Awards may only be offered for students starting a new full-time graduate course.

  • Applicants must meet the English language requirements:
  1. Higher Level: IELTS 7.5 (7.0 in each component) or TOEFL 110 (25 in each component)

The University of Oxford Ertegun Scholarship Duration:

The scholarship covers your tuition fees for the entire length of your approved course. If your program lasts more than a year, you’ll need to renew your scholarship annually based on your academic performance.

Application Procedure for the University of Oxford Ertegun Scholarship

  • Interested applicants for the Ertegun Scholarships at Oxford are to apply for the scholarship at the same time as they apply to Oxford by selecting ‘Ertegun Graduate Scholarships in the Humanities’ in the Funding Section of the University’s Graduate Application Form.
  • Apply to  Oxford First: You’ll need to be admitted to a humanities graduate program at the University of  Oxford. Submit your application following their instructions.
  • Complete the Ertegun Scholarship Alongside: While applying to Oxford, be sure to indicate your interest in the Ertegun Scholarship on the University’s graduate application form.
  • You must also complete a supporting statement (Word doc) and upload it as a PDF document together with your Graduate Application Form by the application deadline for your application to be complete.

You have to reply to the statement by providing three responses, each no longer than 500 words, that address the objectives and goals of the Ertegun Scholarship initiative.

  • I am a current Oxford student: can I apply for a scholarship?

Current Oxford students may apply for this scholarship only if they are applying to start a new course (rather than for funding to support their current course).

  • I have submitted my application for courses with an early application deadline but want to submit the supporting statement at a later date. Is this possible?

It is preferable to submit all application material at once. However, exceptionally it is possible to submit the supporting statement at a later date. Please submit your course application for the earlier deadline, ticking the Ertegun Scholarship option and uploading a placeholder statement saying “I will provide my Ertegun statement for the January deadline”. Once you have completed your supporting statement send it to Graduate Admissions by the deadline. Please ensure that you state your full name, course details, and student number.
