Scholarships for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees are now available from the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung to international students worldwide. Regardless of the subject area, students from all academic disciplines are eligible to apply and pursue their studies in Germany.

For the 2024/25 session, about 2,700 undergraduate and postgraduate students will receive a grant from FES. The FES also supports foreign applicants who are already studying, or doing their postgraduate studies, in Germany at the time of application.

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Scholarship Program Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Scholarship Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Applicants must have obtained relevant academic qualifications that will be used to offer them admission into their prospective courses.
  2. Applicants must have a good command of German, even if the classes are in English.
  3. In addition, they must have been accepted or enrolled in a German or state-recognized higher education institution.
  4. Applicants must be foreign students already studying, or doing their postgraduate studies at the time of application in Germany.
  5. They must have the motivation to study along with voluntary social and political involvement.
  6. With good academic achievement, applicants must also possess good social and personal attitudes that will play an important role in the selection process.
  7. Applicants must be from the Global South (Asia, Africa, and Latin America), post-Soviet republics, and eastern and south-eastern European (EU) countries to be eligible for this German scholarship program.

Eligibility Criteria for PhD:

  • Applicants must have received an unconditional admission notification for the doctoral scholarship.
  • Foreign applicants also need to demonstrate adequate German language skills.

Expectations

FES expects scholarship holders:

  • To continue and intensify their socio-political commitment.
  • To participate in extra-curricular seminars and activities of FES campus groups regularly
  • To achieve above-average results in their degree courses

At the end of each term, a semester report has to be submitted to FES which describes the scholarship holder’s current academic performance and his/her social engagement.
