US-MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship Program 2025/2026

US-MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship Program- Sponsored by the Department of State’s U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), the Tomorrow’s Leaders (TL) Program offers undergraduate and graduate scholarships to exceptional students from socioeconomically underserved backgrounds and geographic diversity of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Interested and eligible persons are welcome to apply for a chance to study on scholarship at any of the American University of Cairo, Beirut, also from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, the West Bank/Gaza and Yemen.

Eligibility Criteria | US-MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders Program 2025

Eligibility for Undergraduate Program

The applicant applying for the undergraduate scholarship program must:

  • Maturity, adaptability, and leadership potential.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Demonstrate financial need per MEPI and host university financial aid policies. Applicants should be underrepresented or economically deserving students and should provide supporting financial documentation as requested.
  • Current high school seniors or applicants who graduated from high school in 2024. After submitting their application, current high school seniors must maintain their high academic achievement and pass their leaving exam.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. A minimum TOEFL iBT score of 80, received within two years of the program start date, is required for university admission/enrollment. Students may be eligible for intensive English language training if needed. Ability to travel and start their undergraduate program in August/September of 2024.
  • Applicants must have the following citizenship or nationality: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria, the West Bank/Gaza or Yemen. American citizens or U.S. Legal Permanent Residents are not eligible to apply.

Eligibility for Graduate Program

  • Ability to travel and start their graduate program in August 2025.
  • Maturity, adaptability, and leadership potential.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Participants must commit to completing their master’s degree within two academic years.
  • Meet admission requirements at the host university, additional information is provided on the website.
  • Demonstrate financial need per MEPI and host university financial aid policies. Applicants should be underrepresented or economically deserving students and should provide supporting financial documentation as requested.

About the Tomorrow’s Leaders Program

Since 2006, the Tomorrow’s Leaders Program has partnered with leading American-style universities to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective leadership.

Tomorrow’s Leaders participate in exciting internships, civic-engagement activities, and enrichment workshops where they apply their knowledge to real-world settings.

Undergraduate participants have the opportunity to study abroad in the United States for a semester, immersing themselves in American culture, engaging with local communities, and expanding their global outlook. Upon graduation, participants join a network of over 1,000 program alumni serving as leaders across the MENA region.

By attending world-class universities like the American University in Cairo, the American University of Beirut, and the Lebanese American University, which are rooted in the liberal arts tradition, Tomorrow’s Leaders foster critical thinking and strengthen the ability to find creative solutions to the challenges facing their communities, the MENA region, and the world.

Programs covered by the US-MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship Program

Frequently Asked Questions

  • If I graduate in 2021, 2022, or 2023, am I eligible to apply to the undergraduate program?

For applicants from Iraq, Libya, Syria, West Bank/Gaza, and Yemen, the program accepts applications from current high school students or those who graduated high school in 2023 or 2024. Applicants who graduated in 2022 or earlier are not eligible to apply.

  • Does the program send Tomorrow’s Leaders to the United States?

Tomorrow’s Leaders undergraduate students may be eligible to apply for a semester abroad in the United States.

  • What financial documents are required?

Financial documents are not required upon submission of the application, but they may be requested if the applicant moves on to the interview stage of the selection process.

  • When and how will I know if I am selected for the Tomorrow’s Leaders Program?

Shortlisted candidates will be notified by the beginning of January 2025 and scheduled for interviews in January 2025. Final selections will begin being notified in May 2025 and continue on a rolling basis until all openings are filled.
